WHITE NECTARINE SANGRIA (by France)
I made this in the Summer time, on a hot August weekend... when sweating is part of everyone's daily life in NYC. It's delicious and easy to make - give it a try. Bon drinking!
Serves 10 l Difficulty: medium l Prep time: 15min l Total time: 4h15
1 bottle of floral, fruity white wine (pino grigio, riesling)
3 ripe nectarines, plus more for garnish
1/4 cup Elderflower liquor (e.g. St Germaine)
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
Handful of fresh mint
1. Let peaches ripen on kitchen counter a day or two until fragrant and slightly soft.
2. Bring sugar, water and a handful of herbs to a simmer, in a small pot on the stove, stirring until sugar dissolves. Let cool just for a few minutes.
3. Slice peaches.
4. Place peaches, wine, herbed simple syrup and a splash or two of Elder flower liquor in a pitcher or large mason jar.
5. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. It will become more and more flavorful if left for a couple more days. Peaches will brown, but will taste better and better. If serving to guests, strain out the brown peaches, and replace with freshly sliced peaches, a handful of fresh herbs and serve over ice.
